Sophie Thomas is a respected singing teacher and choral director having taught at Carey Baptist Grammar School for eight years as well as at other schools in Victoria. Her strengths as a vocal coach are backed up by her outstanding skills as a solo piano performer and accompanist. She is well respected as a private vocal instructor, repetiteur, performer and musician.
Her theatre performance credits include SONG AND DANCE (Emma), FAME (Serena), INTO THE WOODS (Little Red Riding Hood), THE WILD PARTY (Kate), SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD and BLOOD BROTHERS. Sophie received a Guild nomination for her role as Catherine in PIPPIN (CLOC).
Her prominence as a Music Director is marked by receiving two Green Room nominations. The first in 2007 for MARY BRYANT (Magnormos) and again in 2012 for the 2011 production of FLOWERCHILDREN: THE STORY OF THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS. Her other Musical Direction credits include THE THING ABOUT MEN, [TITLE OF SHOW], BETTER THAN BROADWAY, THE HATPIN and various pieces for OzMade Musicals.
Sophie’s early performing career included tours of Europe and the USA as a violinist, vocalist and solo pianist with various groups including the Chamber Strings of Melbourne and the Australian Girls’ Choir. She has also participated in several Master Classes in piano, violin and voice in Melbourne, Sydney, Hawaii and Wisconsin.
Sophie’s qualifications include Bachelor of Music Performance (Voice, Improv.) from the Victorian College of the Arts and she is a graduate of the National Theatre’s Music Theatre course. Prior to entering the field of musical theatre as a performer and music director, she gained the L.Mus.A (piano) and A.Mus.A (violin) and was a regular award winner at various eisteddfods.
